OIC Urges Warring Parties In Islamic World To Respect Sanctity Of Ramadan
KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 (Bernama) -- Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has urged all warring parties in the Islamic world to respect the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan and stop all forms of hostility and bloodshed.
In a message congratulating the Ummah (Muslim faithful) on the occasion of Ramadan, he said he regretted that the "month of tolerance and forgiveness" came at a time when some parts of the Muslim world were facing wars, unrest, and humanitarian crises.
In a statement issued by OIC, Ihsanoglu cited the Syrian crisis where killing, bloodshed and destruction had become an integral part of people's daily lives.
Ihsanoglu said that Ramadan was a month of purity, serenity and security, in which Muslims exert more efforts to refrain from all forms of sin, seeking repentance and forgiveness according to the teachings and values of Islam.
"I really hope the days and nights of this month (Ramadan) of mercy will be full of purity and free of all unrest and concerns," he added. He also pointed out that there had never been conflict among the followers of the various schools of thought in the Islamic world for centuries, as was the case today.
"We should be aware, above all, that difference is mercy for the Ummah and should not be at all a source of dispute and rift," he stressed.
Muslims will start fasting from dawn to dusk beginning tomorrow.
In this blessed month of Ramadan,
May Allah the Almighty shower his choicest blessings on all of us.
May HE make our Iman stronger.
May HE forgive all our sins, short comings and mistakes.
May HE fulfill all our Halal desires.
May HE safeguard us from all calamities and troubles.
